The PGA Tour has agreed a long-term partnership with the Tom Brady-co-founded web3 brand Autograph.
The partnership will see the web3 firm create a ‘digital collectibles’ NFT platform designed to allow golf fans from around the world to own a piece of golf history.
US-based Autograph will create digital collectibles of the tournaments best golfers using tour competition video data, as well as imagery and other competition assets.
As part of the NFT rollout, collectors will also have the chance to view exclusive content and enter competitions to win once-in-a-lifetime meet and greets as well as other benefits.
PGA Tour licensing chief legal officer and EVP Len Brown said: “The PGA Tour is excited to work with Autograph to offer digital collectibles that highlight the most talented golfers in the world and their role in the sport’s history.
“The Tour is continuously looking for innovative ways to engage fans to bring them closer to the game and their favourite players, so we’re thrilled to start building the future of golf fandom with the Autograph team.”
Autograph co-founder and co-chairman Richard Rosenblatt said: “We are thrilled to expand our roster of iconic partners with the addition of the PGA Tour as our first professional league.
“Over the last year, we have defined the future of fandom by leveraging NFT technology to bring fans closer to the icons they love across sports, music and entertainment and each other. We look forward to unlocking new potential and offering our community exclusive access to the PGA Tour team through this partnership.”
Golf legend Tiger Woods, who sits on Autograph’s board of advisors said: “I’m very excited to be a part of this next chapter with Autograph and the PGA Tour. Enhancing the golf world with NFTs will create a connection between us as players and the fans.”
Autograph has partnered with a number of heavy hitters within the sports world in recent times, including Wayne Gretzky, Usain Bolt, Naomi Osaka and Simone Biles.
