Hacked Ronin funds sent to Tornado Cash

The Ronin Bridge hacker has moved $6.9m of the stolen funds to a Tornado wallet, according to on-chain data from Etherscan.

Ronin Bridge was exploited by a hacker, draining $622m from Axie Infinity developer Sky Mavis’s treasury.

It appears that around 20 transfers have been made to the same Tornado wallet with each transfer worth more than 100 ETH. The total amount moved to Tornado is 2,000 ETH, around $6.9m.

Tornado cash is a privacy tool built on the Ethereum blockchain. It breaks the on-chain link between a sender and receiver’s address.

After the exploit on the Ronin Bridge, with the hacker stealing 173,600 ETH worth $622m on March 23, the Ronin team said that it believes the scammer to have accessed the funds through “hacked private keys”.

This explanation didn’t go down well with users and the company was heavily criticized for not identifying the hacker sooner.

Shortly after the discovery of the hack on March 29, Axie Infinity’s in-game tokens; Axie-Infinity Shards (AXS) and Smooth Love Potion (SLP) took a tumble.

In an appearance on stage at the NFTLA conference, Axie’s leader Jeff “Jiho” Zirlin explained his high hopes and optimism for the project’s future, making the announcement that Axie is “fully committed to continuing building”.
