HTC has launched its first “Viverse” smartphone, which incorporates crypto and NFT functionality and links up to its metaverse platform.
The HTC Desire 22 Pro incorporates all the apps needed to manage HTC’s metaverse content. Including a Viverse app which lets users buy NFTs and “create your own virtual space”, according to the product announcement.
The phone is designed to work with HTC’s VR headset, Vive Flow. HTC global head of product Shen Ye said the smartphone “opens new immersive experiences as the perfect partner for VIVE Flow – whether it’s meeting colleagues in VR or enjoying your own private cinema anywhere you are”.
The phone comes a Vive Wallet, in which NFTs can be stored and users can monitor the performance of their cryptocurrencies, while a Viverse Market lets them make purchases in the metaverse.
HTC has launched crypto compatible phones in the past. In 2018, it launched the Exodus 1 smartphone, which incorporated a hardware wallet and could run a full Bitcoin node.
The latest HTC phone will retail at around £399 in the UK when it’s released in August (roughly $490 or AU$700), which a fairly competitive price point in the smartphone market.
