Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson has joined the digital art market, launching his non-fungible token (NFT) collection on The National Basketball Association (NBA) Top Shot.
The collection, named The anthology: Magic Johnson will cost £399 per pack and drop on June 7 consisting of 1,600 NFT packs that showcase and capture his career highlights.
Those with a Top Shot score reaching at least 150,000 will be airdropped one of 1,200 packs. The remainder of the 400 NFT packs can be bought by others regardless of their buyer’s score.
The 6ft 8 former basketball player took to Twitter to announce his partnership and collection.
“I’m really excited to partner with @nbatopshot to release my first NFTs and bring some of my favorite moments from my career to fans everywhere. Fans get to see just a few of my favorite plays from my career!”, he said.
The proof-of-stake blockchain, Flow Blockchain, is used by NBA Top Shot and is specifically designed for NFT collectables and other crypto games.
Flow is particularly made for extensive scaling without using sharding techniques which in turn provides low cost and quicker transactions.
In April, the NBA announced its own NFT, an 18,000 asset Ethereum NFT collection named The Association. The drop was exploited only hours after its launch.
