US Treasury to open public consultation on crypto

The US Treasury had announced it is now open to public comments on President Joe Biden’s order for new cryptocurrency rules.

In March, Biden asked multiple US agencies to work on a detailed system to cultivate a plan for overseeing digital assets.

Now, the Treasury Department is paving the way for the public to voice their opinions and submit ideas and comments.

According to an announcement made on Tuesday 12 July, all public comments must be received by August 8 to be considered.

Nellie Liang, undersecretary for domestic finance, said in a statement: “The Treasury Department is seeking to benefit from the expertise of the American people and market participants by soliciting public comment as we engage in this important work.”

In September, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will submit a report to the White House once all comments have been reviewed and there is a strategic and comprehensive plan to present to Biden.
